FEMA is here to help you
The Mobile Disaster Recovery Center is at the fairgrounds until May 10 to help flood victims register for federal aid. There are also assistants from the SBA to answer questions about low-interest loans for homeowners, renters and businesses. If you suffered from damages or losses in the recent floods, Hughes says, “Don’t disqualify yourself, come and talk to us. We’re here to help and answer any questions you may have. We want to take care of folks.” Hughes is originally from Searcy and knows people in this area. As of Saturday, FEMA had aided 27 Prairie County residents at the Mobile Disaster Recovery Center, but Hughes says he’s sure there are others who FEMA could help. “You can call FEMA to register, register over the internet or talk to us face to face here at the fairgrounds.” Call FEMA at 1-800-621-3362 or as Hughes says, “Don’t disqualify yourself, you may be eligible for aid you don’t realize. We’re happy to help.” A total of 92 people have been registered in Prairie County on-line, over the phone and at the Center with $137,000 disbursed.
