Brent Griffin appointed Staff Chair Prairie County
Extension Service
The University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension
Service announces the appointment of Brent Griffin to Staff Chair position
for Prairie County. Griffin returns to duty with the Extension Service after working
for Cache River Valley Seed the past three years as their agronomist and production
leader. Prior to working for Cache River Valley Seed, Griffin worked for the
Extension Service for 7 years as the agricultural Agent in Prairie County stationed out
of the Des Arc
office.
Extension Homemakers attend state meeting in Hot
Springs
“TEAM – Together Everyone Accomplishes More” was the theme
for the annual Arkansas Extension Homemakers Council meeting June 9 through 11
at the Hot Springs Civic and Convention Center. Marie Price, Janice Bell, Dora
Holloway, Alyeen Saunders, Sue Palsa, Suzanne Poston, Mitzi Osborne, and Betty Stallings all members
of the Prairie County Extension Homemakers Clubs, were among more than 600 members
from throughout the state, their guests and University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service personnel
who gathered for the
event.
AgHeritage sets date for customer
appreciation
The annual AgHeritage Farm Credit Services
Customer Appreciation Open House will be held Tuesday, July 7, at the Lonoke
office, Hwy 70 & Academy, from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Hamburgers, hot dogs
and grilled chicken will be served. The Customer Appreciation Open House is held
each year to show our gratitude to our customer-owners and to celebrate the relationships
that we share with
them.

awards Prairie County project grant
Governor Mike Beebe announced today that the Arkansas Historic Preservation
Program, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, has awarded $1,287,097 in grants
for projects in 38 Arkansas counties through its County Courthouse Restoration Subgrant, Historic
Preservation Restoration Grant, Certified Local Government Subgrant, Main Street Downtown Revitalization Grant and Main
Street “Slipcover” Removal Grant
programs.
Hazen Teachers’ Pathwise schedule July 7, July

The Pathwise training
scheduled for Hazen teachers will be held on Tuesday, July 7 and Monday,
July 13. The first date is incorrectly listed as July 6th on the high
school summer professional development
schedule.

Center Point Fire Association meeting
held
The Center Point Volunteer Fire
Association held a meeting on June 22, 2009 to adopt the by-laws and
constitution for the organization. The by-laws and constitution were accepted and unanimously approved by
all that were in
attendance.

VFW Vanhouten-Minton 4560 Post will meet at Bancorp South community room on
July 7, at 7:00
pm.
Local club to visit Heifer
International
GFWC-AR Elsie McCain Club members will go to Heifer
International Thursday, July 9, leaving Hazen at 10:00 a.m., as announced by Sue
Carter, president.
The Club
will visit the newly installed “village.” Heifer International is one of the projects
supported by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Arkansas. The group will have
lunch in the River
Market.
George Smith files for Senate as Republican to
succeed Bobby Glover
George Smith, a Lonoke County resident has
announced his intentions to run for state senator for District 28, which
includes Lonoke and Prairie counties and parts of Arkansas and
Pulaski.
Smith, 64, a native of Hope,
and a longtime state newspaper editor and publisher, will file as a conservative
Republican. He is seeking to succeed Senator Bobby Glover who is leaving office due
to state’s term limits
law.
